fun Oh my there's fun to be had on Betfair backing the favourite in a dog race then laying it when the price comes in. You can make as much as 20p per race! Very interesting to see how the market develops - I need to study it a bit to avoid being caught out, nearly was in one where I'd backed 3 of the 6 runners but only got the lay bets in for 2 of them, luckily the other won the race. When it opens it looks like the layers are offering a basic tissue with a pretty hefty overround, and the apparent backers all want 12-1 on everything (in a 6 dog race???). I suspect they're actually the layers sticking a longshot lay-off marker down early.

Had to happen sooner or later Do you remember that time when you were knee high to a grasshopper and you were in a shop or somewhere and you turned round and MUMMY|DADDY WASN'T THERE ?!?!?!?!?!
In Morrison's this morning, Jack was being helpful [FSVO] and going from one of us to the other - I generally go and get fruit while L gets veg. And there was a short time when we both thought he was with the other, but actually he was at (or on the way to) Customer Services...
Apparently he did everything right: he didn't panic and tear round the place (though he'd surely have found us if he had), or just stand there crying, he grabbed the nearest staff member and explained the situation.
He clung onto me pretty tight for quite a while.

day off Could have gone to the bowling green, but the close cut sward would have mocked me, so I mowed our lawns instead. Gave a frog a fright while doing the back; nice to see it. Surprising how much sweat you can work up mowing two fairly small lawns - though I did rake them too, and reseeded part of the back one. Also today I've been to the tip and the post office, and done a Proper vacuum of downstairs (ie including the fireplace, furniture, cornices, etc) and the stairs. Off to do the lower stairs in a mo.

The boy ... was orrible from about 10am to about 12am, and it seemed an awful lot longer. It was close to the point where you go to the party to drop off the pressies and then leave, so he knows what he's missed, so he knows how annoyed you are with him.
But anyway.
At the moment we're amused by the way he says "I don't know how to say [name]". Presumably he really means he doesn't know how to talk to the person in question.
Something else that's been amusing me for a while is the way he addresses anybody he's playing with whose name he doesn't know or can't remember as Friend. Even less effective, you'd expect, on 3yrd old Spanish girls than it is on peeps at home... but he pulls anyway.

oh, if I must Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done. See if anybody else responds with "I've done that." Ask your friends do this in their journals to see what unique things they've done.
1. Been knocked off a motorbike by a police car
2. Taken 5 times the maximum daily dose of diphenhydramine in one go (great hallucinations, but you feel SO awful the whole next day and God knows what damage it does to you, Just Say No)
3. Owned a pinball machine (wonder if the ex will ever let me have it back? [command me to take it away, more like])

furthermore when we got back to dear old blighty and went to baggage reclaim, the signs said our stuff would come out on #2. didn't. came out on #3. and i'll tell you why. the computers were down on #2. i looked up at the screen and it had a windows kernel dump on it. i laughed and then had to explain to a couple[1] next to me "I work in computers so that's very funny".
[1] I was going to write "middle aged" but they were older than me and I'm 54...

Oh, and the other thing that happened just before we went away was that L got her 100 - on the Friday evening, IIRC. I'd got mine almost 2 full weeks earlier. Sometime last week we got mildly chopped in a queue of traffic. By a 101, which we wouldn't have seen if it hadn't chopped us. A Sign.

Who thought that one up then?
We bought one for Jack, since the Telecaster is a bit big for him. £15 for the uke, £11 for the tutor...

before I forget on the way to the airport - two weeks ago now, crikey - at about 04:45, on Albert Royd St, outskirts of Rochdale (at the point actually called The Roaches, in fact), had to slow as a very young deer was running about the road in a slightly panicky fashion.
