Ouch
The instructor for our beginners group used me to demo a kick as I was the only one the right height.
The kick came in before I was entirely ready. Good job my bladder was empty, really.

Madness
This is a coffee wine. Yes, coffee wine. It may be hideous, it may be amazing. Roll the dice.
The plan is to feed it sugar until the yeast (GervinD) gives up, then re-pitch a Gervin high-tolerance yeast and get the ABV as high as possible - 20% ought to be achievable, maybe a touch more if I'm lucky - then give it a bit of vanilla and some sweetness. Kind of Tia Maria Lite.
I'll let you know...
I've got some more of that high-tolerance yeast for the strawberry&raspberry melomel. Going to keep feeding it more honey until it gives up. Wonder how strong it'll get? Mead /should/ be strong.
I bottled the carrot today. Wants a couple of weeks in bottle to age away a very slight bitter note, then it'll be very nice indeed.
Tomorrow I'm picking up some Suma apple concentrate which will be used to make a TurboCider that will be more appley. Sadly it'll also be slightly stronger than the standard TC. Oh dear.

Value for money
That's what we call it when a game goes to 19-19. Sadly I lost the last end, and thus the game - his lead was good, my first wasn't good enough, his second left him lying game, so I tried firing at it, missed by a foot. Mind you after the first 3 ends I was thinking I might not get any at all, so I was astonished to get to 19-18 up, and not terribly displeased to lose 21-19.
My PD is now 0, I have 2/2 from 4 games: could be much worse. We lost the match 8-4.5. Very tricky green, Wardle, some interesting lumps and edges that are easy to fall off: big home advantage there.
We don't have another league game until June 12th but will probably have a little competition between ourselves next Tuesday.

I dunno, you make a bit of turbocider, just to see, and it seems to be as good as average shop cider, so you make loads more over the months, evolving the recipe until you reckon it's not at all bad, and you've always enjoyed it, and so has everybody who's tried it, and then you spot some draught cider in the local wholefood shop and the next thing you know you're buying litres of that coz it's really nice and puts your homemade to shame. Well not shame exactly, but I'm going to have to up my game. Got to make it fuller and more appley. Some chopped Bramley and a bit of extra sugar - or honey or golden syrup maybe - might help. Kinda stops being turbocider and crosses the line into just cider once you start having more than 4 items in the recipe and you need pectolase and maybe a 2 stage fermentation though.

guitar heroes
I had cause today to reflect on the iniquity that is the veneration bestowed upon Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird". Frankly tedious, and with lyrics that are easily arguably depressingly misogynist, it was released in 74.
Only a year earlier, Steely Dan had released an album with far superior guitar soloes, on "Bodhisatva" and "Boston Rag". In 74 itself, they did Any Major Dude, with some of the tastiest guitar work around, albeit not an extended solo.
In 74 Santana's version of Black Magic Woman was only 4 years old, and he was producing more great guitar work on Borboletta at the time Freebird was wasting radio airspace.
And of course the Allman Brothers "Brothers and Sisters" rarely spent more than a day off our decks that year.
I despair.
