Poll #1751995… - oldbloke's mutterings
should be legal (with safeguards)
should not be legal
I can't honestly choose between those two options. Although I can imagine circs when from an individual's pov it should be legal, the Swiss and the Dutch social experiments take place in a context where the general default position is that doctors are to be trusted not to kill the vulnerable.
Given the foul treatment of the elderly and the very young in this country, and the grumpy, selfish indifference I observe everywhere, I don't think it should be legal in this country at this time. I wouldn't trust the social care processes to protect the vulnerable and over time this society would see The Executioner as a normal social function.

Even though I answered the poll saying it should be, I agree with the above!

I want to be able to call Time when I am ready, without putting my family at risk of being prosecuted. I'm in favour of assisted dying, and always have been. I know my own mind, I've made my decision, and I don't want or need anyone to tell me that I'm wrong.
The crux of OldBloke's poll is "with safeguards". Such safeguards should include - as with Dignitas - the signed consent of the patient.
