When ecommerce goes bad
So...
If you order online, they take the payment, the delivery date keeps being put back, so you cancel, they promise a refund, it never arrives, you contact Barclaycard, get the dispute forms, and the day you post them back the company disappears from the web...
How likely are you to see your money again?

You'll get nothing from the company, I would guess - unless you're lucky and they've only gone bust, in which case you might get a few pennies on the pound from the receiver in a couple of years' time.

But Barclaycard might cough up.

If it was a credit card purchase for more than £100 (and less than about £30k from memory), you're in jam - the card issuer is jointly liable for the entire amount so you'll definitely get the dosh from them.

If it was less than £100, it's less legally cut and dried, but they might refund it on a goodwill basis. Definitely worth trying it on.

Good luck!

It's only 33 quid, so I guess it's up to whether Barclaycard are in a good mood. Though I do see from a thread on Moneysavingexpert that some people did get their long-promised refunds just as the company folded.

I bet you'll get it from Barclaycard.

That's the point of using a credit card isn't it?

Well, with a debit card you're entirely at the mercy of whether the bank is in a good mood; but as Doug says, the credit card co isn't actually liable until you get to £100, so in this case I still have to hope they're in a good mood.

Visa and Mastercard have zero liability guarantees for fraud on top of the Consumer Credit Act, which apply to both credit and debit cards:

(couldn't find a link to the Mastercard UK policy)

Damon Parsons worked it as a little network of 5 or 6 companies. One of them's showing liquidation, the others in my part of the chain don't show anything yet.

I see at the end of Jan he set up The Online Shopping Company (UK) LTD - take out the (UK) and you have the one that's gone. Stay away from the new one too, this guy has a history.
