DON'T PANIC - oldbloke's mutterings

It says 1,261 cases in the UK, but the doctors' says DO NOT go in if you have flu, and they phone you back and tell you to treat it like flu. So I don't see how they have any kind of idea which flavour of flu you've got.
What actually happens is that they send a practice nurse round to take a swab, which then gets sent off for analysis.
WERE ALL SLIGHTLY INCONVIENCED!
Is this your new hobby, or something?
Or do you really think this is the next pandemic?
It IS a pandemic. But some pandemics don't actaully matter much...
I'm sort-of practising for an idea I had of doing a Doomwatch blog/webpage
WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
There are 2 confirmed cases at the junior school the Adorable Nieces (tm) used to go to, which is practically next door to the school they're at now (where SiL works) and most of the kids at Lydgate have siblings at either Tapton or King Teds.
One hypothesis that I found interesting was that the reason for the higher infection rate among the young compared to the old was that older people already had some resistance to H1N1 from earlier 'flu outbreaks.
Happily, so far (outside Mexico) it appears that the fatality rate for this strain may be lower than for the usual seasonal strains. How much of that is the health authorities looking for the first sniffles and jumping on such cases much more quickly than usual is a moot point.
