Crisis - oldbloke's mutterings
The Retired Greyhound Trust have 1000 dogs in kennels needing homes and another 1000 waiting for those kennel places. Have you got room for a big soppy dog?
Oh how I wish I were fit enough!

I would love a dog but as we are all out during the day it wouldn't be fair. I don't think the cat would be keen either.
My mother works with the Greyhound Rescue Trust, as a home checker. She has three greyhounds, two of whom came to her as temporary foster dogs.
It is something I have thought about, but is not practical at the moment. THey are lovely dogs, and '30 mph couch potatos' or 'mobile draught excluders' is a good description.
I believe if one is too soft with them you end up buying an extra sofa, though.
If we didn't have a cat I'd get one tomorrow.

Yes I was wondering why you get the RGT nl! (If you look in the obits/poems section you'll see a Bobski - we fostered her before she went to the Franeks - their cat used to chase HER!)(At one time we had 4 GHs and a whippet in the house and that plus other stuff was too much; I got v. stressed and put on a lot of weight; 2 is much easier ! Us both working full-time is OK as we work close enough to come back and let them out for a wee at lunch).

Used to go to Belle Vue track pretty regularly, then got a bit of guilt about how they get treated after their brief career is over. Bought a few christmas cards etc off the RGT.
It is not so much that we got an extra sofa (though it is a large one with greyhounds in mind), as that we haven't got rid of the old one as Nellie seems to have adopted it as her own.

There's a lovely greyhound living down the road here who came from one of the rescue centres. I'd love one, but we're out or away so often it would be out of the question because most of the time we'd be unable to take a dog with us.
