End of an ear - oldbloke's mutterings
End of an ear|
Today I sold all my realfilm gear - Canon T70 body, 3 lenses, 3 flashes, various filters, teleconverter, macro tubes, etc
These days of course the aly case I kept it in was about the most valuable part of the kit, so I didn't ask for much for it.
Slightly weird though - I saw a Freecycle request for camera gear for a student doing a photog course, mailed to say if nobody gives you one I can sell you one. A few emails later the deal was set, but when she turned up she'd already got a Canon EOS with 3 or 4 lenses and various nice extras, free. Not sure why she were prepared to pay for mine - guessing she didn't know what she'd get from the free deal until she actually picked it up, sounds like it was from a widow who didn't know what she had.
So I was lucky to actualy get the deal through really.
Anybody got any homebrew stuff they don't want?

No homebrew stuff I'm afraid, but perhaps I should think about flogging my Olympus film kit (OM40 and OM1 bodies, couple of standard lenses, a 55mm f1.2, various telephotos and wide-angles, a flashgun, a 2x converter, and a motor winder). I haven't got an ally case for it, so it'll probably be worth even less.
It'd be nice to see it go to an enthusiastic student - might be worth checking whether the local colleges have any courses starting in the autumn.
That does seem to be the only real market for such gear right now.

I'm not surprised. I did consider finding out where the local photographic club was, and offering it to their members, but concluded that I'd probably be laughed out of the door.
I doubt it, there are still people who Believe in RealFilm and like messing in darkrooms and a photo club would be the place to find them. Only prob would be they'd mostly have enough gear already.

If there is a chance, it could just possibly be worth an email to the club secretary; even if I only get enough for it to cover the cost of taking it there, at least I'll have its space instead of its clutter...

Catharine said yesterday that she's looking for a "proper camcorder". I mention this because I was struck by the way she phrased it. We were in Tesco at the time, and she was looking at what looked to my inexperienced eyes like fairly good kit. She was looking at it with the eyes of student who's been used to using things like rostrum cameras, and implied that the camcorders in front of us were toys rather than serious apparata. Maybe students, who are using decent kit at university, have higher standards than one might usually expect from such impoverished folk.
Um. I'm sure I had a point, but it seems to have wandered off. As you were.
Got homebrew stuff. Havent touched it in 10 yrs so realistically dont think I will again. Fermentation bins, pressure barrel, demijohn and assorted bits. You want?
The transfer from you to me could be problematic: it was more of a rhetorical question, really.
Oh I dunno. Am in manc fairly often which isnt too far, and any excuse to ditch the in laws cant be bad: -)
If you change your mind gimme a nudge
Well, I'm actually an hour's drive NE of Manc, but possibly something could be arranged at some point. Not sure my wife wants a load of brewgear cluttering up her office in the business School though.
Ah yes, the clutter associated with the joys of fermentation.
Next time I am in the garage roofspace I will actually look at what I have and send you a list. No point going further unless it is something you actually want and have space for. (5 gzllon barrels hardly take any room up hehe)
The outlaws live in middleton so possibly nearer than an hour but dont worry. I dont plan on turning up to force you to take my stuff just to ditch em for a bit
