Yes Wii! - oldbloke's mutterings
Finally got the furshlugginer thing to load one of the custom levels from the net.
Next up, dl Reggie Dump and Reggie, so we can grab levels out of NSMB and mod them...
Gory details later, for those interested: it took me a few tries (the docs are written by peeps who knnew what they were doing so are obscure in some places for those who don't)
My SD card looks like this:
boot.elf [can't recall if this is the one from the HomeBrew Channel installer or the Riivolution installer]
bootmii [created by the HBC install]
private [created by the HBC install]
title [contains folders for the 3 languages supported]
riivolution [not sure if it needs to be here, there's another in apps, with more in it...]
NSMBtemplate.xml [This is the vital bit that lets Riivolution patch NSMB]
apps [where you stick stuff you want the HBC to run, though Riivolution comes up as a channel of its own]
NSMBtemplate.xml [I stick it here as well at one point when it wasn't working, not sure which of the 2 it shoud be in]
reggiedumper [Lets you grab levels etc from the disc, to take away and edit, not tried it yet]
boot.dol [This might need to be an elf]
nsmb [where you stick patches for NewSuperMarioBrothers]
02-01.arc [This is a file dl'd from the web, renamed to the world/level we wanted to replace]
I'd suggest doing the HBC install first, then Riivolution, then add the NSMBtemplate and a patch and check it all works at each stage. Finally Reggiedumper. I'm hoping Reggiedumper will let me grab stuff from SMG2 as well - instructions for AnarchyInTheGalaxy seem a bit thin on the ground.Edited at 2011-01-10 11:23 pm (UTC)
For the HBC install you may need to use the power and reset buttons on the console to navigate the menus of the installer. There's a stage where contact with the Wiimote is lost. Power moves through the items, reset selects.
Well, Reggiedump grabbed the min files required very quickly and easily - would have grabbed the whole disk but wasn't sure I had room on the card. Reggie! itself is easy enough to use, and I stuck a few extra item blocks into the start of 1-1 just to test it, and the Wii was happy enough with that. Would like to mess with the coloours on the sprites, really, not worked out how to do that. Maybe need a separate tileset editor. And working out how to deal with all the interaction etc will be a bit of a job. But, we have enough to mess with existing levels or build our own from scratch. What larks!
