My sis is looking to get her first ever home computer - a lappie for space reasons.
She's not at all techy and will only do email, bit of web, banking etc., so doesn't need a vast spec. For reasons of simplicity she'll probably want to get it from PCWorld...
I note they have a HP at £500 that doesn't look too bad to my don't-keep-up-with-this-stuff eye.

iPad? For emails and internet and not a lot else it's perfect :-)

Or even the Asus Transformer. With the keyboard included, it's a sweet little creature that can be a notepad or a tablet.

(I keep recipes in Evernote, and often have mine parked on top of the breadbin in the kitchen.)

Sounds a bit pricey for a “don’t need much” user?

Well... I generally find that peeps who "don't need much" turn out to need rather more than they let on originally. And a few months of Windows Update means you need to overspec to end up with something acceptable. And I just happen to like HP (eg their card reader takes almost anything, unlike many machines you see)

A decent laptop won't cost more than £400. Check out the Dell website, for £500 on there, you can get a spec you want instead of the overpriced stuff at PCW. Even if she wants to go to PCW, it shows whats actually available for the price.
